Coming along

I took a quick trip to the truck hole. Since last year I was a bit late to that particular show, I figured I’d try to visit earlier this year. Apparently, it’s a bit too early yet…

I have to say, it sure looks better than it did last time I visited… I just need to give her a few weeks to dry out a little. I bet it will be well worth a visit in, say, a month or so.

Meanwhile, I have one more spot to visit. I’ve been avoiding it because it’s a much longer hike than the truck hole is… However, I have an entire warm sunny day to get out there and explore. I suspect it will be full of water also, but given that there is just so much more mud along the creek areas (Creeky, Creeky Bog, Creeky Marsh), I’m almost guaranteed a romp today.

Gearing up!

Well finally, the weather forecast is telling me to get out of this damned apartment and get out into nature a little bit. It feels like it’s been years since I’ve spent a day in the bush!

I have to admit I feel a bit lazy this spring, since I’ve spent most of the winter sitting on my ass! I did, however, manage to get out of the house for one somewhat soggy afternoon and take a short hike through a chunk of forest I haven’t explored before. There are some promising looking streams running through this chunk of land, but nothing that really got my hopes up… I did find one particularly mucky patch of trail, but the road is essentially right fucking there! So much for that.

It seems someone has been quite busy tho…

So that was a pretty neat little excursion. This particular stretch of forest offers some challenges for hiking. Cliffs, steep hills, lots of trees and rocks and things, and a few trails for when I need a rest. I’m loving the exercise, after spending so much of the winter getting fat, LOL!

I can’t decide which pit I want to visit first this year. I’m thinking Truck Hole Trail will be in its prime right now. I also think the Creeky Marsh would also be starting to ripen out around the edges too. The only problem, as it is every spring, is these little fuckers!

I hope this forecast holds up!

So many tiny bags of sand!

Well this ‘spring’ is certainly soggy. Everything’s flooded and surrounded with tiny bags of sand. Sandbags give me sore joints.

I suppose this flooding is to be expected, although we’re having noticeably more ‘major’ floods. It’s definitely time to stop building houses in areas known to be susceptible to high water!

I hope this year’s floods catch the attention of somebody smart. There are ways to manage large waterways and the land around them, and the expense is worth it.

Well, anyway…

I worry a little bit about how long it’s gonna take all this water to float away. I would hate to start the fun season in September… Although, I’ve thought lately that I should start working mud pits that still have just a bit of water over them still… Which should be pretty easy this year.

If we’re going to be stuck with all this extra water for a while, there’s a fair chance I’ll be able to get some use out of the clay hole. I’ve left if alone for a few years, and it doesn’t look so appealing housing a pandora’s box of mosquito larvae! Maybe this is the year to revisit and see if I can clean it up a bit…

Uhm, how do I wear pants, again?

There’s this time of year when I spend my free time planning out the coming mud season. From wandering around Google Maps, to deciding what gear I want/need, and even spending time blabbering on about it! 🙂

Typically, I wear spandex shorts (yes, I’m still using the same pair I was in 2014!) under a zentai suit and it’s been, by far, my configuration of choice when doing nasty things to mud pits. However, this year I plan to try wearing the shorts over the spandex suit. I am curious about how that will work.

One problem with the shorts-under-suit thing is that the shorts really stick to me and it’s difficult to adjust them with the tight zentai suit over top. The one time I tried the shorts-over-suit thing, the shorts didn’t cling to me at all, and the suit’s too-short legs caused them to slide to my knees all the time.

This year, I have a new suit. I had it custom-sized so it clings better in the crotch area. And so, I’ve decided to try the shorts-over-suit thing again. If the suit can’t handle it, then I’ll see if I can get stronger fabric and/or stitching…

Keepin busy

We’re fully spring, after a seemingly endless winter! There is still much snow to melt, but recent rain is helping that along. I’m hoping for a way better mud season this year and so, while I wait, I’m going to blow some time on a new theme.

So, while I’m doing this, things might be a bit off kilter.

Fuck Tumblr

I’m removing Tumblr from the ‘Stalk Me’ menu… I have a blog there, and it’s here… But I don’t plan to post anything there. Since they took the grown-up stuff away, it’s not the same experience it once was. Everything is censored… I can’t change my profile pic or banner… Ads point to fake news sites…

I totally understand their reasoning for taking away the sensitive kinda stuff. I’ve seen a lot of websites in my time that have been killed by allowing porny-type stuff that just overloaded their infrastructure and sucked all the money out…

But ya know, when they start modifying my account, my profile, and my postings without notifying me or asking me or giving me a chance to fix your problem myself… Well that’s too far out there for me.

See ya, Tumblr. You suck now.

A late summer adventure

I have been out in the bush again! 🙂

I was hoping this time to be able to get into the marsh but there is still too much fuckin’ water covering the crazy awesome mud I found at the end of the 2017 mud season… The hole I’ve been playing in for the last few trips is getting a little bit dry, but it’s still pretty deep and mushy enough…

Yup, so as you can see, I have a good 18″ depth to that particular spot. It’s actually bottomless as far as I can tell, but I need water and some effort to actually realize it’s true depth. So, instead of using that spot again, I’m letting it rest until the next season comes along. The spring floods will fill in all the foot prints, and so I don’t have to worry so much about the spot being discovered. 🙂

I returned to one of (if not the) first spot I played in when I originally found this area last year. It’s even deeper, almost to my waist. I did manage to bring my fancy camera like I had planned to do a few weeks ago. It made for an interestingly messy image:

And so I played around in there for some time and ended up having one of the best sessions of the year so far.

I plan to return again very soon. I am hearing a lot of weather gurus say that we are likely to run out of summer warmth sooner than we have the last few years, and so I am trying to get out as much as I can. I am hoping the best part of the marsh pokes out in time for me to have a session or two in the infinitely deep muck that I love so much!

Specializing in laziness

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve made plans to go out, and then changed my mind at the last minute out of pure laziness. I did, however, get around to mudding up my new suit.  Sorry again for not taking any photos.

I decided I wanted to keep my backpack clean and dry so that I can use it for other things… To this end, I went and bought a lightweight dry sack to put my wet dirty clothes in after I clean myself up. This should keep the wet dirty stuff contained so my backpack remains clean and dry. A bit of expense at $33, but I think it’s well worth it.

And so, I find myself making plans again for this week.  I’d like to go spend the entire day outside playing around and maybe getting some photos or something.  We’re getting a nice taste of fall this weekend. I hope it doesn’t mean that summer is over yet, because I really feel like this whole summer has been a waste…

Camera Gear

I try to snap a few photos when I’m out and about, and in many cases I don’t put them online… The main reason for this has to do with the tiny little lightweight digital camera I carry around with me. I have found it very difficult to capture nice clear photos with this little thing.

It’s not for lack of photography skills, since I have a nice DSLR and a few lenses that I’ve spent many hours with. I rarely carry this one because it’s a hundred times the size, and it’s not something I want to be using with my muddy paws all the time.

However! I am thinking maybe I’ll bring it along when I try out my new suit in (hopefully) the next few days… I haven’t got much out of doors time this summer and I think it would be nice to leave earlier in the day and just hang out alone in the woods for a while. I’ll bring my tripod, even!

So far the weather looks pretty good for the next few days, so I am hoping the recent heavy rain we’ve had hasn’t flooded out my happy place too badly. Last time I visited the marsh I noticed that some of the best mud is starting to poke through…
