Double-dose of the paranoia

I am reminded today of my previous paranoid musings about my privacy and security.  What brings me here today is that I’m pretty sure the owner of the property I’ve been playing on is on to me, since after my last visit, he was driving by at the time I exited the trail (which isn’t on his property, but isn’t far away either)… When I got home I was concerned about this so I checked the handy dandy Google Maps map and it turns out this crazy deep spot is not only on his property, but right beside one of his trails. Now, I’m approaching from the other side, which is swampier and doesn’t show signs of previous traffic, but if he stops and takes a good look around, or if he ends up hunting back there, it’s quite probable he’ll find (or maybe has already found) evidence of my presence.

There’s also the possibility of him having these little suckers nearby. This would be really, really bad. Getting busted is a scary enough possibility, but the possibility of being filmed is far beyond scary…

I’m not sure what I’m going to do about this. If there is another nice day I would very much like to return to the spot one more time and have some more fun, but it’s a much bigger risk than I am generally comfortable with. Given that it took me this long to muster up enough courage to do this during the day at all, I’m not sure I should push my luck…

Winter redesign

Since I can’t seem to find anything else to do this winter, I’ve decided to spend a bunch of time redesigning the site a bit. If you’re visiting and things look really fucked up, please have patience and check back soon to see the latest enhancements! Continue reading

Bottomless!

Welp. I went back. It seemed deeper this time. I think that is because the more I squish around in it the deeper it gets. Also the thicker it gets, of course. Dragging the thicker stuff up from the bottom thickens the top pretty quickly. I’m really glad for this. It’s quite a workout trying to move around.  Getting there is also fun. Although it’s mostly covered with dead leaves, the area approaching the visible edge of the bog is also very soft and muddy. I bet I could get just as deep from a little bit inland…

This is definitely not an early season pit. During the spring and most of the summer the water level is going to be way too high. I can watch it through the year, though, because the entire area is swampy and squishy and as the year goes on, more and more of it would become accessible. This has the advantage of letting me have my activities hidden by the forest, and this is especially desired during the months when people are actually using the water.  Although, I might have a real challenge keeping the mosquitos at bay!

On my way back home afterward I passed by the ‘original’ creeky and realized just how hard it is to spot.  There’s still a little pool of water in the middle of it, which kinda makes me feel good about next year!  If I feel particularly energetic I might go back and bring back a sample or two of the nice clean mud that’s there to help me get through the winter…

I can’t help myself!

Well today is cloudy and all of about 12°C outside… But it’s not going to stop me from re-visiting yesterday’s deliciously deep mud hole. The next few days are going to be colder and colder so I don’t know if I’ll be able to visit the hole any more this year, and yesterday’s adventure left me wanting more. It’s gonna be freakin cold, but I can’t help it. Once the temps start falling below 0 at night, everything’s gonna get too cold to play in. This might be my last chance…

OK I got a bit stuck…

I followed the creek a bit farther than usual. There’s this one spot where it takes a 90 degree turn and keeps going, and when I went to visit it today, the low water had left me a very nice, very dirty and very deep bank to play in!

I spent some time digging out sticks, but for my trouble it was so worth it! I started stomping around near the edge, and found that the mud I was displacing was causing more mud to peek out above the water level. The farther away from the shore I got, the deeper and stickier the mud became. By the time I was ready for a break, I was sinking almost to my waist, and I could’ve gone quite a bit deeper!

I was a little unhappy about the water thinning the mud out a bit too much, but as I went deeper it got much thicker, and all the fooling around was making the watery top layer much thicker.

I will have to remember to visit this place next year when the water level drops… Although, the entire area was quite squishy so I’m betting if I go earlier in the year I’ll be able to go just as deep from further inland… And this would be a good thing.

This area is a bit iffy with regard to privacy concerns. I can see varying distances down the creek, so I’ll be able to spot intruders well before they have a chance to recognize me, but traffic from the other direction will surely go unnoticed until it’s too late. I’m pretty sure the area is visited by others, which is why I made creeky somewhere else…

If I do end up with unwanted visitors, I’m boned. I got so stuck in the deep muck that it took me several minutes to fight my way out.  At least I’m tired enough to sleep well tonight!

If I go there again sometime I’m going to bring some rope so I can pull myself out!

One last dip.

Although it’s a bit late in the season, we are having a nice warm day today.  I’m going to try to make it out to the pit one more time. I would really like to follow the creek for a bit and see if there’s a soft bank I can play around in… Surely the pot plants are gone by now. Hopefully there’s nobody out hunting nearby. That could make for a bad scene pretty quickly.

The last trip out there was about a month ago, but my hole doesn’t seem too eager to dry up, so I might only make it that far, but I really would like to explore around the creek a bit. Since the water level is really low right now, there’s a good chance I’ll find something to play in, just to add some variety.

I’ve been using the same pit all summer! I haven’t even visited the truck hole this year!  I’m looking forward to maybe checking it out again next year.   Since the area slopes in toward the big muddy area, and we’ve had lots of rain this year. I’m betting next year the mud will be deeper… Oh man. Must not get excited for what won’t happen for another 8 months!

So at least for this last nice day of the year I’m sure I will have a wonderful adventure this afternoon!

I wonder what it’s like now

I am tempted to try something. The last few times I visited this year’s fun spot, it was quite soggy.  I’ve actually had to remove excess water to keep the mud a bit thicker.

It’s been a while since I visited and there hasn’t been any rain. Since the pit holds its water pretty well, I am tempted to see if it’s really thick again and if it is I’m considering adding mineral oil. The mud is really gooey and fun already so this might not be necessary but I would like to try and see.

Trying to wash that out of clothes could be interesting…

Welcome to the Squishy Mess Clip Show!

Today I find myself sitting around indoors enjoying the fresh cool air we’re finally getting. The nice misty rain and happy breeze are making quick work of dropping the humidity too.  Since I’m not feeling the urge to go outside at all today I’m taking a while to review some of my older posts and make a few noteworthy notes about the state of things.

First thing to enter my mind is I love deals! For $5 a pair I couldn’t go wrong buying a bunch, and I did. The great thing about this is I’ve been using the same pair of these shorts for 3 years now and they are still tight and stretchy and not a single hole or tear in the seam or anything. Even more, they haven’t taken on any sort of long term odour! They take whatever I throw at them, and come back for more after a quick wash. Just amazing! Other purchases have worked out well for me too, while some haven’t been so great, like the oversized ducky shoes.  It’s been lots of fun shopping for zentai suits too and I hope this year or next I will be able to afford a custom made one.

I remember really wanting a day spot last year. I didn’t find one, for various reasons… Am I being too risky?frustration, and my night time sessions at Truck Hole Trail were so great I didn’t really need to look any more!  This year, however, I did find one. I actually found an entire empty area surrounded by nothing but forest canopy and thick, concealing underbrush.  Yay comfort level! While my first romp there was OK, subsequent visits were carried out a few feet away in a hole I dug with my own bare shovel.  Around the time of writing this, I’ve been there several times already this year. It’s so peaceful and calm at this place and I can’t get enough of it!

Mapping hasn’t really produced any good results, although I do enjoy scouring maps looking for fun looking spots, all the places I have visited were found by driving by or Digging through the bush…  Some places find a spot in my mud hole inventory, and some I never get a chance to try out but keep track of anyway.  All I know is that for this year I’ve found my spot and I’m going to keep working with it as long as I can!

It’s getting really gooey!

As I mush the mud around more, the surface level drops a little below the ground level. This is great for collecting rain, and since it’s a somewhat shaded spot, the water hangs around for a while. After, oh I don’t know, maybe an hour of mushing the pit around, I end up with this prime example of a clayey mud hole.

It’s so sticky that even when I stick my arm in the watery part, it leaves a thin smooth layer on my happy suit.  The whole pit is at the point now where I can get under the surface and really chew it up just with my hands…  I suspect next time I visit the hole (which I’m already planning!) it will still be quite sloppy and easy to work with.

Anyway, we’re entering a muggy hot part of the season so I’m making plans for sometime next week when the rains come again and refill the hole. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t actually need any more water, but at the same time, keeping the pit wet will help it last through the whole season.

I still want to make a trip out to the great Truck Hole but that will have to wait, unfortunately.

I think I’m in love with this mud pit

I just can’t get enough of this mud hole, folks.  No extra water needed, and it’s so smushy and slippery and has this really creamy texture. I just can’t get enough. This is definitely shaping up to be one of the best holes I’ve ever had, if not the best. And I can go there during the day and I’m not disturbed. It’s shaded, which is a must for some of these crazy hot days we’re experiencing.

I smushed around in this mess for hours before finally succumming… and I loved every freakin’ second of it.

Incidentally, I found a spot at the creek that is pretty well hidden, so once I get myself cleaned up and dressed like a normal dude again I can go to this spot and rinse out a major part of the mud. This helps alleviate the worry about all the mud going down the drain, although it hasn’t caused any slow downs or other problems… Oh, and being able to wash all the tree sheddings and twigs off helps too… Nice and simple, just the way I like it.

I’m getting this spot down to a science. I go in, play around for a bit, clean up is relatively painless. When I get home, the only evidence of my adventures is tucked away in my backpack and I’m able to stop and chat with people on the way. This is kinda freaky and something I needed to get used to… Then a quick jump in the shower to “wash the bug spray off” and I’m back to being a normal guy.

Oh yeah I almost forgot to check how much refills for my bug repellent thing are. Hopefully not much.

Catch you next time!
