Day! Spot!

Oh yes oh yes oh yes!

I took a drive out to the Truck Hole Trail and see what’s up there. It still looks every bit as good as it did last year… Then someone drove by on a 4-wheeler, so I made like I was taking a casual walk on the trail. It reminded me how I don’t really like this spot all that much. There’s a nice pool of mud there and it’s been driven through by our mud bogging friends again this year. But the trail is just too exposed and used quite a bit.

So I decided to take a walk down a trail that branches off of this one. Well I get just far enough down the trail that I can’t see the other trail any more. Not very far, maybe a 5 minute walk. And I see a puddle in the distance. And tracks leading to it. So I get a little bit excited and after another minute or two I come across this lovely looking pond…

Yes!!!

My first few steps landed me on a gravel floor like barely 6 inches down. But as I trudged around some more I started going deeper and deeper… I was starting to get pretty excited by this point. The sun was out and it was warm and I couldn’t be seen from the main trail so I walked around some more and explored for a while. When I got to the other side of the pond I found that I wasn’t hitting gravel any more. With only the slightest bit of effort I was easily stepping in mud up to my knees and pushing deeper and deeper as I walked around. I figure I can get up to my waist if I try hard enough!

It’s very nice smooth mud with a pretty high clay content and not a lot of organic. No smell whatsoever! I figure I found my springtime day spot, and I can’t think of anything else except going back there and exploring more before the pond dries up for the year!
