Spring is here!

Yes, it is here, or so astronomy says. We’ve had a few nice warm sunny days to usher in the new season, but it’s about to get chilly again…

This latest bit of warmth is helping the snow to melt pretty good. Not too fast, not too slow. The ground is still frozen solid, but at least the sunshine will help that along too.

I’ve been going through this weird sort of emotional turmoil the last few days. I’m really itching to wander through the bush and stumble upon a nice squishy mud hole to play in. I have a few spots marked down to check out once the ground is thawed enough to play in.  It looks like another 4-6 weeks at least before the ground warms up. This is absolutely killing me. I’m so anxious to get out, that it’s affecting my daily life. I am having problems getting motivated to do anything else. I can’t get my mind off thinking about wandering the trails and playing in the mud.  House chores aren’t getting done, laundry isn’t happening. There’s some work I should be doing to get some money coming in but I can’t bring myself to do anything.  My appetite is gone. I’m hungry, and I have lots of food, but can’t bring myself to cook or eat…

Except for a good pair of socks (I’m considering buying these guys), I’m pretty much ready to go out for a day of hiking.  I’m thinking about taking my fancy camera and lenses and just wandering around some trails. Maybe I can find a spot like Truck Hole Trail that is close enough to me that I can hike there and back within a few hours. I’m thinking about 2 hours of hiking on foot is about as far away as I want to go. 2 hours to find a spot, a few hours to play, and 2 hours back makes for a great day out! Fortunately there’s tons of mostly empty, rarely used land here. And being close to a lake means a lot of little ditches and creeks and wetlands to explore within this 2 hour radius.

Back to the socks… Yeah the socks. I have been using these cheap bulk socks but they barely reach my ankles and they just sort of slide off the nylon/spandex suit I’m wearing… So there’s that little problem. Additionally, the suit I have is just a generic size and is not quite long enough on the legs. I’m debating just chopping the toes off so I can snug up the crotch area a bit without going any buying a new suit. By getting the over-calf socks from SportChek I maybe be able to compensate for these things and save myself buying a new suit for the time being.

It’s quite obvious that I won’t be affording one of the $300-ish suits I’ve been drooling over lately. But I’ve found one here that just might do the trick. Free custom sizing and much less expensive suits. I don’t know what sacrifices I’ll be making for this, but including customization and shipping they total less than $100… If I go ahead and order one of these less expensive ones, I hope it ends up being worth it. They tend to get pretty OK reviews, but it’s hard to make a decision based on censored and cherry-picked comments from only the happy customers…

So in the meantime. I’m just sitting around unmotived, accomplishing nothing except waiting for the warm weather to warm up the cold ground so my poor little feetsies don’t freeze and fall off. Waiting. And waiting. And waiting…
