*slurp!*

While I’m not really into the whole ‘stuck in quicksand’ kinda helpless sorta sinking type thing… I did return to this year’s top choice mud hole and put the results of the recent rainy days to work for me.

With the extra water, and the extra time stomping around, I finally did hit bottom at a depth about half way up my thigh. For me, it’s pretty much the ideal depth. It also got very sticky. I had significant trouble yanking my tired legs out of the hole. Also, it appears the site hadn’t been visited by anyone since my previous visit so I figure it’s the best and safest day spot around for the time being. Still, if I were to encounter an uninvited guest, I’d be pretty much helpless to get the hell out of there quickly since it took me almost 5 minutes to dig myself out the other day.

I did take a tour around the whole pond to see if there is a spot closer to the side of the bush I can hide out in, but the best mud really is on the other side where I’ve been playing so I’ll keep going there. The pond is still well flooded and I’m kinda looking forward to returning when there’s a bit less water depth so I can trudge around and have this gigantic potential area to sort move around in. Right now I’m on the shore of it in a small 3′ x 3′ or so spot, which is fine, but hey I want to play lol.

There is still a bit of discomfort really. There are several busier trails that are more frequently used because they don’t abruptly end like this little offshoot trail does, so I’m hearing quads and dirtbikes and traffic on the road all around me. It’s pretty clear now that my actual spot is rarely visited and far enough away from the trails that I’m not seen… But my comfort level would definitely be improved by a bit less noise around me.

Conclusion: I’m gonna stick with the 7-8pm visits that give me enough time to prepare in full daylight. Just before the sun sets I can get to the main event, and still have just enough light left to clean up and head home in time to shower before the neighbours go to bed.

A quite successful mudding season thus far. It’s really nice to be able to look forward to getting in some mud without the crazy uncomfortable “I’m gonna die if I don’t get my fix soon” feelings from the last few months.  And I’d also point out that I got more action in May of this year than I did most of last summer. This bodes very well for the rest of the season!
