The search is on… again.

Well finally I get to take a nice late afternoon trudge through the flooded forest dodging ice-filled holes and tree branches… I found this place… A mile of flooded creek shoreline. There’s still ice about 2″ down so if I can get back there soon enough it will be a simple matter to scrape off the top 2″ and when the rest melts it will be very nice squishing…

There’s lots and lots of space here. I am hoping I can clear out enough bush to make a clear path to the creek. There are a few other spots along there that I can explore in more detail once the spring melt gets out of the way and the water level drops a little bit.

I also checked out another little area a bit closer to home. Maybe too close, it’s hard to tell. I will need to return there when things start to dry up a little. It looked, initially, like a hole in the ground that someone had dug for whatever reason… But my walking-stick-slash-mud-probe stuck a good 18″ into the bottom of the hole… With lots of surrounding material to shovel into the hole, I could easily fill it in and have a nice 3 foot deep play hole. The only problem with this place is that it seems to be frequently visited, and it’s a bit too close to home for my liking… But the hole itself is a bit off to the side of the trail so it’s possible I could simply cover it enough to hide my presence. It’s a silty/sandy mix, similar to one of my other frequented spots, but with less organic stuff, which is good for my health!
